Quantum Chemistry

Quantum chemistry aims at accurate and efficient approximations for the solution of the many-particle Schroedinger equation. The derivation of such systematically improvable analytic approximations to many-particle wave functions and Hamiltonians is at the heart of theoretical chemistry because knowing the wave function of a molecule allows prediction of any desired molecular property in chemistry.

The broad range of quantum chemical methods applied in computer programmes for molecular modelling requires a deep understanding of the underlying many-particle physics, which shall be provided in the course of the lectures on quantum chemistry.
