Career development for doctoral students and postdocs

The Zurich Graduate School in Mathematics (ZGSM) has launched a new event series on career planning for doctoral students and postdocs.

Every year a new generation of doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers finish their term at ETH or University and start looking for a new job. Some stay in the academic world, while others look for a job in the private sector. To support the graduates in this step theexternal pageZurich Graduate School in Mathematicshas created theexternal pageZGSM Forum. The Forum is a lunchtime event with the aim of bringingpeople from different groups together by facilitatinga valuable dialogueabout career planning issues. Three to five mathematicians (usually from the Zurich community) are invited for each panel discussion.

The ZGSM Forum is a cooperation of the Department of Mathematics and the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Zurich. It takes place twice per semesteralternatelyon Irchel campus of the University and the ETH Zurich campus. Future meetings will also address topics like job search and opportunities beyond academia, as well as other issues related to career development in general, such as resilience, networking or finding mentors.
